Sky Nelson
I Forgot I Was Alive

Few and far between are artists the likes of Sky Nelson.

A compelling blend of humanity, pop, R&B, and sheer heart is embodied within his new EP – “I Forgot I Was Alive”. Rendering his soul bare while furthering socially relevant issues, Sky has an uncanny ability to touch us in ways that are seldom felt. He grips our innermost sense of identity and motivates us not to be spectators in life.

Passionate vocals drape his unique piano playing, creating flavors in the Adult Contemporary palette, yet tinged with the spices of today’s Jazz, Blues, and Gospel genres. The breadth of Sky’s influences are perfectly integrated into a sapor which compels one to wonder why they haven’t tasted it before. Like many dedicated artists, Sky’s songs provide the defining platform for a genre which may be all its own, and yet leans heavily on contemporary and past mentors.

On “Release the Fear”, one can clearly resonate with his call to all people to shed the shackles of self-imposed constraints – the incisive gospel/blues undertones supported by the sultry background vocals create a perfectly matched backdrop for his emotive vocals. “You Are”, on the other hand, is a carefully constructed ballad that speaks vulnerably about a struggling relationship.

An uncommon life story serves as the backdrop for Sky’s compositions, which display a harmonic blend of virtuosity, credible musical composition, and impassioned performance. His call is as much a call to action as a celebration of the human condition. Be it confronting life’s pain or romancing the hope and optimism that underlies the darkness, he is balanced, charismatic and eloquent in his delivery of this musical banquet. It’s as if this were a statement to all of us about the power of genius that lies in the little people…. “I Forgot I Was Alive” never ceases to inspire. – O.U. Om-Ra Productions

Sky is inspired by and affiliated with the organization Release the Fear, giving vulnerable children the tools to respond peacefully to challenging situations. “(Sky is) much more of a pioneer than the faux rebels littering the cultural landscape, and the bravery in which his music is inspired makes him a light to all souls in a dark world.” C.H.

“Sky Nelson’s (EP) offers us anthem after anthem of hope and power and How To Care. And he does it with deceptively simple arrangements and his clear, pleasing voice. Oh, and some potent lyrics… In “Space for Uncertainty,” he says what some of us have thought and maybe been afraid to admit: ‘Between the cash and the dogma/there’s no place where I belong.” But he doesn’t leave us in that limbo: ‘Through our peace of mind, we leave the world a better place.” www.BuddyHollywood.com
